Why we chose it
We chose this Universal Genève for the blue. A natural lapis dial gives the watch a surface that could never feel entirely standardised, while the compact steel case leaves that material room to be the main event. We like an object whose character comes from what it is made of. Here, the stone is enough to hold our attention.

The design
The dial gives the watch depth and colour without needing much ornament. Steel provides a cooler frame, and the black leather strap keeps the composition focused. It is a small object with a very clear point of view. This example also carries visible age: a fine crack pattern in the transparent coating over the dial. That is separate from the natural character of the lapis itself. We want both to be understood, so the attraction of the stone and the condition of this particular watch are equally clear.
A little context
Stone dials belonged to a period of colour and material experimentation in watch design during the 1960s and 1970s. This 1970s Universal Genève makes that idea personal: a small natural-stone surface, paired with a hand-wound movement. Winding it gives you another reason to spend a moment with the object.

At approximately 22–22.5 mm across, the case has an intimate scale. We would give the blue a little space: a bare wrist, a simple sleeve, or jewellery with an equally clear material character. Pre-owned and in working order. The transparent coating over the lapis dial has a visible spiderweb-like crack pattern; this should not be confused with natural stone veining. The case has previously been polished, softening some edge definition. The seller fitted a replacement black leather strap and crystal. The watch was recently serviced, and its service warranty card is included. No original box or original papers are included.
